Boxercraft Announces 2018 Pancreatic Cancer Scholarship Winner

Published: November 20, 2018

Boxercraft, Mableton, Ga., announced Diana Garnett as the winner of its annual Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer Scholarship essay contest.

Garnett, currently a senior at the University of Arizona majoring in business management, is the 2018 recipient of the $2,000 scholarship. At 16 years old, she lost her father to pancreatic cancer. According to her, he had always inspired her to work hard in school and strive for excellence.

“It had always been his dream for me to attend and graduate from college,” says Garnett. “Education had always been incredibly important to him, and I share this belief with him. As a result of losing my father, I looked for outside scholarships to help fund my education. When I came across the Boxercraft scholarship, I immediately connected with it and could not be more thankful to put this money towards my education and live out my father’s dream for me.”

The scholarship contest was created in 2017 to honor the memory of Tod Rastello, Boxercraft’s former vice president of sales, who passed away in 2016 following a long and courageous fight against the disease. The scholarship honors a current or upcoming college student who has personally battled pancreatic cancer or has a family member affected by it.

“Diana’s essay really moved our hearts as we know first-hand how difficult it is to lose someone close to you to this disease,” says Shelley Foland, chief executive officer of Boxercraft. “Boxercraft is proud to be able to help Diana achieve her educational goals in honor of her late father. Diana is truly a remarkable young woman with an incredible future ahead of her.” — D.S.
