Brother International’s ScanNCut Wins Two Awards

Published: February 4, 2014

Brother Intl. Corp., Bridgewater, N.J., recently received two industry awards for its ScanNCut home and hobby cutting machine with a built-in scanner.

After three weeks of deliberations in North America and Europe, five judges from industry research firm Envisioneering selected Brother’s ScanNCut as winner of the Innovation & Design Award. Brother was selected from more than 120 companies that launched new products during ShowStoppers at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Additionally, the Craft & Hobby Association’s board of directors recently named ScanNCut the No. 1 Most Creative Item at the Craft & Hobby Mega Show in Anaheim, Calif.

“We are honored to be recognized by two of the most respected shows in the crafting and technology industry,” says Dean F. Shulman, senior vice president of Brother Intl. Corp. and head of the company’s home appliance and industrial products division. “ScanNCut has set the standard for innovation and creating for all DIY/crafters, paper crafters, quilters, sewers and mixed-media artists by reinventing the traditional electronic cutting machine.”

With its 300 dpi built-in scanner, the ScanNCut machine can turn scanned images into unique cutting designs and projects without a computer, software or expensive cartridges, according to the company. Users can select from built-in designs or scan virtually anything — a handmade drawing, a magazine clipping, cherished photos and more — to create cut designs and then save to the machine’s memory, according to the company. Designs can be saved as cut or draw files.

Brother also has launched ScanNCutCanvas, a free cloud-based web application allowing designers to create original cut drawing data and convert SVG files to a format compatible with ScanNCut.
