HanesBrands, Winston-Salem, N.C., announced it will donate more than 225,000 pairs of underwear to assist Hurricane Dorian victims in the Bahamas and coastal North Carolina.
Partnering with the nonprofit charity Delivering Good, Hanes will help to distribute essential basic apparel valued at more than $1 million to the storm and flood victims who have lost homes, endured relocation and separation from families, suffered extended power outages and many other hardships.
“HanesBrands and its employees continue to be longtime supporters of those in need here and around the world,” says Chris Fox, HanesBrands’ vice president of corporate social responsibility. “We know that victims of natural disasters have a tremendous need for the basics in life, including shelter, food, water and clothing. And we are happy to spread some ‘Hanes For Good’ to assist in the long road to recovery after Hurricane Dorian.”
The Hanes, Champion, Bali and Maidenform apparel, which includes men’s and kid’s underwear and women’s panties, is being shipped from the company’s distribution centers in Rural Hall, N.C., and Perris, Calif.
Delivering Good, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit relief charity that helps the apparel industry aid those in need, will arrange for the apparel donated by HanesBrands to go to relief agencies, including several agencies in the Bahamas and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte, N.C., which is assisting state residents, according to the organization.
