Imprintables Warehouse, Masontown, Pa., has released a new how-to video on outlines, contours and cutlines.
Presented by Steven Jackson, sales and education representative for Imprintables Warehouse, the 11-minute tutorial demonstrates how to fix a graphic that was created for output on a printer/cutter, but was incorrectly set up. According to Jackson, this is a common mistake newcomers make when learning CorelDRAW.
The design in the video, shown above, is comprised of a team name in block letters with a solid black oval underneath. The word “softball” was overlaid on top of the oval. The block lettering was originally created as an outline. The designer could not figure out how to put a cutline around the lettering.
In most graphics software, an outline is a property of an object, as opposed to being its own object. This can cause issues when setting up a cutline around the outline, as it will place on the center of the outline rather than an outer edge. Jackson shows a step-by-step method of how to convert the outline into an object, make necessary adjustments to individual letters for better cutting and break the contour group apart so it will not cut as one piece.
