Published: October 15, 2025

Those decorators looking to expand their product offerings are going to want to be sure and check out GS2 Awards & Laser Supply’s upcoming two-day technical seminar exploring the fusion of two distinct but complementary decorating technologies, laser engraving and sand carving, set to take place Nov. 14-15.

Led by GS2 Awards and Ikonics Imaging, the event will make it possible for attendees to both learn the ins and out of setting up these kinds of systems and do some actual sandblasting using some of the best sand carving equipment on market. As part of the program, participants will learn to work with substrates that have traditionally been difficult to customize with lasers, such as polished metals and hard ceramic glazes, as well.

Over the course of the two-day program, taking place the GS2 headquarters in Boulder, CO, seminar participants will also gain insights into how to upsell their existing engraving customers by transitioning from a laser’s shallow etch capabilities to the smooth-sanded, deep-carve capabilities of a sand carver.

Instructors, Braden Todd of GS2 Awards and Distributor of Trotec Lasers, and Darin Jones and Brandon Radovich of IKONICS Imaging, all experts in their respective technologies, will lead the event. Among the specific sand carving topics on the agenda will be:

  • working with photoresist films
  • halftone images
  • deep-carve techniques and more…

Among the specific laser engraving topics on the agenda will be:

  • using BlazerOrange masking material
  • working with flat and curved substrates
  • Stone lasering do’s and don’ts

Space is limited to 40 students. To register, go to https://gs2awards.com/pages/events-education.
