According to a report compiled by the market research firm Future Market Insights Inc. (FMI), the global decorated apparel market, currently valued at $38.7 billion is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.1 percent over the next decade, reaching an estimated $132.3 billion by 2035.
Per FMI, “The shift toward personalized and expressive clothing continues to be a major growth driver in the decorated apparel segment. Consumers are increasingly seeking garments that reflect individual identity, unique designs and customized messaging. From casual streetwear to occasion-specific attire, decorated apparel serves as a medium of personal and cultural expression.”
Apparel Decorating Technologies a Key Driver
In a blog post summarizing the report, FMI goes on to say the decorated apparel industry continues to benefit dramatically from rapid innovations in printing and embellishment technologies, with screen printing, direct-to-garment (DTG), dye sublimation, embroidery and heat transfer decorating all seeing advances in the areas of design flexibility and production efficiency.
“These advancements are making it easier for businesses of all sizes to offer high-quality, customized apparel on demand. Digital platforms are also playing a critical role, allowing seamless design, ordering, and fulfillment for personalized garments. E-commerce and print-on-demand services have further democratized access to the market, enabling direct-to-consumer models that eliminate traditional inventory burdens,” FMI says.
“Decorated apparel is seeing increased adoption across multiple industries,” the report’s authors go on to say. “In the corporate world, customized uniforms and branded merchandise enhance identity and cohesion. In the events space, customized clothing has become a staple for concerts, weddings, festivals, and sporting events… “The trend is also being embraced by educational institutions, sports teams, and small business owners who are leveraging custom apparel as a tool for promotion, unity, and community engagement.”
Sustainability, Costs Remain Challenges to Growth
Other findings include the fact that while North America currently leads in market share, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to witness the fastest growth over the forecast period.
Among the challenges the report identifies are the problems of sustainability coupled with ever-changing raw materials costs and supply-chain challenges. “As the market expands, environmental and ethical considerations are becoming more critical. The industry is under pressure to adopt sustainable practices, including the use of eco-friendly fabrics, water-based inks, and low-waste production methods,” the report’s authors say.
