Dirtball Launches Campaign for New Green Jean

Published: August 29, 2013

Eco-friendly, USA-made apparel brand Dirtball, Hickory, N.C., has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its new Green Jean — an American-made jean made from recycled water bottles and cotton.

Each pair of the jeans contains between eight to 10 water bottles and all the materials are 100% American-made. Those interested, can purchase a pair for $85 by visiting the project’s Kickstarter crowd-funding page. In order to bring the eco-friendly jeans to the public, Dirtball must raise $40,000 from backers and early adopters.

“Recycling pre-consumer cotton and water bottles, as Dirtball does, helps keep over 5 billion pounds of waste from going into U.S. landfills each year,” says Joe Fox, founder and president of Dirtball. “If Dirtball can save 3 billion plastic bottles from the landfills, it will be equivalent to saving more than half a million barrels of oil, and eliminating 400,000 tons of harmful air emissions, which contribute to acid rain, global warming and smog.”

The Green Jean’s Kickstarter campaign will run through Sept. 25. In addition to a pair of Green Jeans, Dirtball also is offering other apparel, including fashionable stickers, patches, socks, hats, T-shirts, polo shirts, sweat shirts and hoodies, as a reward for supporting the campaign. Supporters can pledge any amount of money to help the Dirtball team reach its funding goal, and the project’s rewards range from $2-$750.
