Champion Athleticwear, a brand offered by HanesBrands Inc.,Winston-Salem, N.C., has opened its first store location in Boston, making it the company’s fourth United States retail specialty store.

The grand opening of the new location at 333 Newbury St. took place on Nov. 17.

“Building on the success of our 2018 store openings in major cities around the country including Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, we are excited to end the year on a high note and carry momentum into 2019 with our newest store opening in Boston,” says David Robertson, director of Champion brand marketing. “As the ‘City of Champions,’ Boston’s standard of excellence in sports, academics and lifestyle culture inspires us as a brand and can be felt throughout the store. The city has long been a Northeastern stronghold for the Champion brand and we look forward to being a meaningful presence on Newbury Street for years to come as we integrate into the community with events, unique products and customization. With this new store, we seek to deliver a truly immersive, sensory brand experience where customers walk away with more than just a quality Champion product.”

The 2,825-square-foot store offers customers interactive opportunities to get to know the brand while shopping. The first 500 customers to shop the store received a limited-edition canvas tote bag with exclusive art designed by Artists for Humanity, a non-profit organization employing young artists in the Boston area. Specialized products, such as a T-shirt designed by Artists for Humanity, as well as a Champion Boston capsule collection, will be available only at the new location.

Shoppers also will have access to on-site customization featuring both Champion and Boston-themed patches to create made-to-order garments. The store also has a brick-wall mural painted by Artists for Humanity and inspired by both the Boston community culture and Champion designs. Additionally, the brand’s Reverse Franchise will be on display, including sweat shirts, hoodies and joggers. — D.S.
