A pair of new direct-to-film (DTF) capable conveyor dryers from Bethlehem, PA-based Vastex International Inc. protect shop personnel from ethylene glycol, a toxic synthetic emitted by DTF adhesives as a vapor during the curing process.
Engineered specifically for DTF curing, the two new EconoRed VP series dryers also draw filtered make-up air through both the top-center of the heating chamber and its double-wall top and sides, cooling the outer skin and chamber edges in the interest of additional worker safety.
Advance Conveyor Dryer Air-flow Design
In operation, this same preheated make-up then air flows into the heat chamber, replacing the exhausted air being drawn out along each side of the belt, an arrangement that prevents an inrush of air from the infeed and exit areas of the dryer that would otherwise disturb lighter materials.
At the same time, a washable mist separator removes glycol from the contaminated vapor, collecting it as condensate in a removable receptacle. (An optional Make-Up Air Heater is also available to decrease the chance of make-up air cooling the product.) In addition, air is drawn through the dryer by an exhaust fan located at the downstream end of the system to minimize exposure to heat and vapor contamination. A collar at the fan’s outlet allows connection of the user’s exhaust ductwork to the shop’s exterior.
“DTF printers must take caution that curing adhesive powders releases toxic vapors,” said Vastex President Mark Vasilantone, adding, “These Vastex DTF-specific dryers employ advanced air mapping to reduce exposure to these fumes and collect glycol condensate, protecting the operating staff as well as the dryer’s heating elements.”
Two Different DTF Conveyor Dryer Models Available
Two models are currently available, both with 24 in. (61 cm) wide, variable speed conveyor belts: model ERVP-III-24 with 10,800 watts, and model ERVP-VI-24 with 15,600 watts for higher belt speeds (capacity).
In addition to its two EconoRed VP series dryers, Vastex manufactures conveyor dryers for a wide range of direct-to-garment (DTG), DTF and screen printing applications, as well as DTF powder applicators, screen printing presses, athletic numbering systems, flash cure units, screen exposing units, screen drying cabinets, screen prepress equipment and washout booths.
The company also offers a comprehensive series of training classes for entry level, intermediate and advanced screen printers. For information go to vastex.com.
