Charles River Apparel, Sharon, Mass., recently announced it is incorporating social media in its third-annual “’Tis the Season for Giving” campaign.
The company is inviting savvy social media users to become fans of Charles River Apparel on Facebook. For each new “like” the company receives, it will donate a garment to the homeless.
The campaign, which will run until Dec. 31, is being held in partnership with The Bowery Mission, an organization that has served homeless and hungry New Yorkers since 1879.
“As part of our Charles River Cares program, we are committed to helping non-profit groups around the country that help individuals and families who are facing difficult circumstances,” says Deb Lipsett, manager of strategic partnerships for Charles River Apparel.
This year, The Bowery Mission has provided more than 382,400 meals, 93,700 nights of shelter and 46,800 articles of clothing. It also supplied showers, haircuts, and expert medical and optometric care.
“For people served by The Bowery Mission, warm clothing in the winter can make the difference between hopelessness and hope,” says Ed Morgan, president of The Bowery Mission. “New clothes can be the first step toward a transformed life.”
Lipsett says the company is aiming for at least 3,000 new “likes” on its Facebook fan page, which will more than double donations from and would equal 3,000 jackets, hoodies or fleece keeping someone warm this winter. Charles River Apparel employees also are part of the drive, and will donate their time to sort garments and get them ready for shipment.
