Hanes Branded Printwear, Winston-Salem, N.C., recently announced that screen printer The Graphic Cow, Greenville, S.C., has been inducted into the Hanes Beefy-T T-shirt Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame is located at the Hanesbrands corporate headquarters and recognizes screen printers, distributors and others within the decorated apparel industry.
Known for its creative flair, the invention of “cowtagging” and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, The Graphic Cow was presented with the 2013 Hanes Beefy-T Hall of Fame Award at a celebration event at its plant in Liberty, S.C. Dave Carter and Clayton Hunt, company founders, along with Jim Hendrix, co-owner and president, accepted the award.
Hunt and Carter started The Graphic Cow in the 1980s. With experience and vision to build a successful company, they eventually adopted the motto “great art plus a Beefy-T equals a top-notch T-shirt.” They hired local artists and built an employee base of expert printers. In 1999, they began operating under the principle “art in 24 hours, shirts in five days.”
With a strong focus on the college market, the company invented individual packaging for custom group orders, which it later trademarked as cowtagging. This attention to service has helped The Graphic Cow grow from a local operation to a national business.
“The Hanes Beefy-T has always been an instrumental part of our success,” says Carter. “We built our company with the mindset of excellence, offering a quality product—from T-shirt to design to delivery—that is what helps set us apart from our competitors.”
