Murakami Screen, Monterey Park, Calif., recently offered local high school students the opportunity to be showcased in its first-ever screen printing competition. The winners were:
First Place: “PIASC Raise Foundation” by Jeffrey Lara, Eagle Rock High School
This year’s winner was a multicolored, textured foil design. It was made with a one-color hand press.
Second Place: “Ganesha” by Leslie Crespo, Venice High School
This one-color foil design has an appealing graphic that works well with the color of foil chosen and the shirt color, according to the judges. “Lots of detail and a very interesting choice of design helped propel this entry to second place,” they noted.
Third Place: “One OK Rock” by Asia Stoll, Venice High School
The judges liked the use of foil in this design. “The use of rainbow foil in the word ‘rock’ imparted a definition of the work rock and the mutlifaceted nature of music,” they said.
