Even in this era of revolutionary change, it didn’t take long for the Brother GTX Pro Direct-to-Embroidery (DTE) System to gather a crowd when it made its debut at the 2024 Impressions Expo in Long Beach, California. Simply put, the system turns the entire practice of modern machine embroidery on its head by allowing decorators to embroider a design entirely in white, after which it is colorized using a modified direct-to-garment style printer. As an added bonus, the DTE system can decorate the garment’s surrounding non-embroidered area as well. A high-resolution camera coordinates placement of the system’s print heads with the garment being decorated. At press time, the Brother GTX Pro Direct-to-Embroidery (DTE) System had not yet been released for purchase. However, it’s going to be fascinating to see how it fits into the decorated apparel business as a whole when it does. Kudos to Brother for this kind of out-of-the-box (or should that be out-of-the bobbin?) thinking. For more information, go to brotherdtg.com/direct-to-embroidery.
