IRVINE, Calif. — Roland DG announced the launch of the VersaStudio BY2-20, a compact desktop direct-to-film (DTF) printer designed to help apparel decorators, print shops and growing businesses produce professional-quality transfers with greater reliability and consistency.
Developed using customer feedback and field experience, the BY2-20 features a DTF-specific architecture that includes dual white ink channels, enhanced ink delivery, advanced temperature management and improved filtration systems. According to Roland DG, these features are designed to provide dependable production performance for businesses that rely on DTF printing every day.
Built for Consistent, Production-Ready Results
As demand for DTF printing continues to grow, Roland DG positioned the BY2-20 as a professional alternative to entry-level systems that often prioritize low upfront costs over long-term reliability.
The company says the printer is engineered to deliver consistent output, dependable operation and a lower overall cost of ownership over time. The BY2-20 combines print hardware, software, inks and media into a complete workflow intended to simplify production and reduce complexity for users.
The CMYK plus White printer is designed to produce vibrant colors, sharp details and repeatable results across a variety of applications, including T-shirts, sportswear, workwear, accessories and décor products. Optional 500 ml ink cartridges help reduce ink costs and improve profitability by lowering the cost per transfer.

Integrated Workflow Simplifies DTF Production
Roland DG designed the BY2-20 as part of a fully integrated ecosystem that includes hardware, software, inks, media and technical support.
The solution includes Connect Designer, VersaWorks 7 RIP software and DG Connect monitoring tools. Together, these programs help users create artwork, prepare files for printing and manage printer performance and maintenance. According to Roland DG, the integrated workflow allows decorators to spend less time troubleshooting technology and more time producing finished products.
“With the BY2-20, we set out to redefine expectations for compact direct-to-film printing,” said Ryugo Nimura, executive officer, Global Sales and Marketing Division, Roland DG. “This is a professional, production-ready solution delivering consistent quality, integrated simplicity, and dependable day-to-day performance.”
Designed for Growth and Expanded Product Offerings
With its compact footprint and user-friendly operation, the BY2-20 is suited for smaller production spaces and businesses entering the DTF market while still delivering the consistency required in professional environments.
The printer supports short-run and on-demand production, helping businesses respond quickly to customer demand while maintaining margins. Roland DG also noted that the system’s standalone cutting capability allows users to produce heat-transfer vinyl graphics alongside DTF transfers, opening opportunities for specialty effects such as metallic, glitter and holographic finishes.
The BY2-20 utilizes OEKO-TEX Eco Passport-certified S-PG2 inks and S-Powder materials and is available through authorized Roland DGA dealers in the United States, Canada and Latin America.
