FINDLAY, Ohio — Pukka partnered with Surfers for Autism to provide custom hats for every participant and volunteer at the nonprofit’s 16th Annual Cocoa Beach Surf Festival, using branded headwear to help create a shared connection among those taking part in the event.

Held June 20 in Cocoa Beach, Fla., the festival welcomed more than 200 participants and hundreds of volunteers for a day of surfing and activities designed for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Custom Headwear Creates a Connection

By outfitting participants and volunteers, Pukka positioned the custom hats as more than traditional event merchandise. The headwear provided attendees with a shared piece of the experience while serving as a lasting reminder of the community surrounding the festival.

“The best headwear represents something bigger than a logo,” says Jessica Burkin, vice president and general manager of Pukka. “It can represent belonging, shared experiences and the memories connected to them.”

Burkin added that the company was proud to play a role in an event with significance for its participants, volunteers and families.

Surfers for Autism Brings Community to the Water

Surfers for Autism creates supportive opportunities for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities to experience surfing while bringing together families, surfers, therapists and volunteers.

What began as a grassroots effort has developed into a Florida nonprofit offering free surf festivals and chapter events focused on creating positive experiences both on and off the water.

For Pukka, outfitting participants and volunteers created a visible connection across the event while recognizing those who helped make the festival possible. The partnership also reflects the company’s view that custom headwear can become part of the communities and experiences a brand or organization represents.

Blank versions of Pukka’s top-selling styles are available to the promotional-products market through Sportsman Cap & Bag and its distributor network.
