Slow Factory, a fair trade scarf manufacturer with operations in the United States and Italy, has launched a fund to help aid women and children affect by conflict in the Middle East. Called the Dignity Fund, the initiative was inspired by the experiences of Slow Factory founder Celine Semaan, who was forced to flee Lebanon’s civil war in the 1980s.
“I understand the struggle that many women and children are enduring [in the Middle East] on a daily basis,” Semaan says. “With the Dignity Fund, we’re acknowledging their plight, while helping them to meet the needs of daily life.”
Working alongside ANERA, a leading humanitarian organization, Slow Factory will put the proceeds from its fall line toward the Dignity Fund. The fall line includes Slow Factory’s Cities by Night collection, which features high-resolution NASA imagery from the International Space Station, Hubble telescope and Mars orbiter.
“Gaza by Night,” the latest scarf in Slow Factory’s collection, commemorates the launch of the Dignity Fund. It features an image of Gaza taken by International Space Station astronaut Alexander Gerst.
