There is no set rule regarding what mesh count to use for multicolor prints, but generally the artwork is the determining factor. Does the artwork have a lot of detail or does it have many solid areas? How many colors does it have?
The second factor to consider is the type of shirt. Does it require an underbase print? Is the shirt likely to bleed (i.e., polyester or polyblend)?
Artwork that is very detailed or has a lot of colors warrants a higher mesh count. Using a higher mesh count also can keep the thickness down when printing over an underbase or if there are a lot of colors in the artwork.
Generally, a mesh count of 160 to 230 is sufficient for detailed prints.
