Dimense Surface is Roland DG’s new premium textured wallcovering brand.

The launch includes designs from four international design studios.

IRVINE, Calif. — Roland DG has launched Dimense Surface, a premium interior wallcovering brand combining digitally printed graphics with tactile, embossed surfaces produced using the company’s Dimense printing technology.

Designed for architects, interior designers and specifiers, the collection uses texture, depth and dimensional effects to turn interior walls into visual and tactile design features.

Dimense DA-640 Adds Texture to Digital Printing

Dimense Surface is produced using Roland DG’s Dimense DA-640 textured printing solution, which combines high-resolution digital printing with physical surface effects.

The system uses proprietary structural ink to determine where texture appears within a design. As specialized media passes through the printer, heat activates the surface and expands designated areas by up to 0.079 inches, or 2 mm, creating raised contours, patterns and other dimensional details.

The result allows graphics and physical texture to be produced as part of an integrated digital-printing process, expanding the potential applications of wide-format technology within interior décor.

Designer Collaboration Series Showcases Dimense Technology

Dimense Surface is launching with the Dimense Surface Collaboration Series, featuring exclusive wallcoverings created with four international design studios: Nice Projects of London, KEIJI ASHIZAWA DESIGN of Tokyo, LOVEISENOUGH of New York and JAM of London.

Each studio developed designs intended to demonstrate the visual and dimensional capabilities of the technology.

Beyond the Collaboration Series, the brand includes an expanded collection of in-house wallcovering designs for residential, hospitality and commercial environments.

Print Provider Program Creates New Production Opportunities

A particularly relevant part of the launch for print businesses is Roland DG’s fulfillment model.

Dimense Surface projects will be produced through the company’s network of authorized Dimense print providers, creating additional production opportunities for businesses that have already invested in the technology.

“Dimense Surface represents an exciting new chapter for Dimense technology and Dimense print providers,” says Andrew Oransky, chief strategy officer at Roland DG.

According to Oransky, the program brings together designers and Dimense technology while creating opportunities for printer users and giving architects, interior designers and property owners another option for producing textured interior environments.

On-Demand Printing Targets Reduced Material Waste

Roland DG is also positioning on-demand production as part of the Dimense Surface model.

Digital manufacturing enables shorter production runs intended to reduce excess inventory, overproduction and material waste associated with conventional wallpaper manufacturing.

The system uses water-based inks and PVC-free, odorless wallpaper material. Designers can also order bespoke solutions for individual projects without minimum-order requirements.

Dimense Surface is now available through authorized Dimense print providers.
