PPAI Names 2013 H. Ted Olson Humanitarian Award Recipient

Promotional Products Association Intl. (PPAI), Irving, Texas, has named Harvey A. Mackler, president of GEMPIRE, Tampa, Fla., as its 2013 PPAI H. Ted Olson Humanitarian Award honoree.

The presentation of the 2013 PPAI H. Ted Olson Humanitarian Award will take place Jan. 17 at the PPAI Expo in Las Vegas, during the Chairman’s Leadership Dinner.   

Named after the late H. Ted Olson, president emeritus of PPAI, the award is presented annually to PPAI members who have shown long-standing empathy, devotion and commitment to improving quality of life and bringing about change in a community.

Mackler receives the award for his history of involvement with the promotional products industry, both at the national and regional levels. He served on the board of the Promotional Products Association of Florida as president in 2008-2009, and as chair of the Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York’s Foundation Committee in 2000-2009. He also is a former board trustee of the Promotional Products Education Foundation, and he chaired PPAI’s Suppliers Committee in 2005-2007.

In addition, he has proven to be a leading advocate of Universal Promotional Identification Code (UPIC) for PPAI to suppliers and distributors, and he is part of the 911-call program associated with UPIC. Outside the industry, Mackler has worked to raise funds and awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease.
