Unifi Expands REPREVE Recycling Center

Published: July 20, 2015

Unifi Inc., Greensboro, N.C., has broken ground on its planned 85,000-square-foot addition to its REPREVE recycling center in Yadkinville, N.C.

The expansion will  increase Unifi’s capacity to produce its recycled fiber brand, REPREVE, and other premier value-added products (PVA) by up to 60 million pounds. The $10 million investment will support the growth of REPREVE as a result of new and expanding value-added programs with customers, and increased consumer demand for environmentally responsible products. The recycling center originally opened in 2011.

The addition is expected to be finished in spring 2016, and is being completed by North Carolina-based Omega Construction Inc. The center was built with environmental benefits in mind, with skylights to take advantage of natural sunlight, energy-efficient light fixtures, low-flow fixtures for reduced water usage and building materials comprised of recycled content.
