S&S Activewear Launches Solar-Panel Initiative

Published: August 4, 2020

S&S Activewear, Bolingbrook, Ill., has started a major initiative to install solar panels on its facilities across the country in an effort to become more sustainable in its daily operations.

Along with local officials and staff, the company has turned five of its warehouses into a renewable energy source for the surrounding communities, most recently being its newest 750,000-square-foot LEED-certified warehouse in Lockport, Ill. This facility is its most sustainable building and adheres to strict environmental standards, including water-refilling stations, recycling bins and reusing packing boxes to reduce cardboard waste, according to the company.

“There’s no question consumers across all end markets expect their supply chains to be more environmentally focused,” says Frank Myers, S&S Activewear COO. “A new generation of buyers means that people are more focused on knowing their hard-earned dollars are being spent on something they know was made, distributed and sold responsibly.”

The company also launched its “Make An Imprint” program to help industry professionals operate more sustainably within their communities. — D.S.
