Sportsman Cap & Bag Offering Helen Jon Reusable Face Mask

May 29, 2020

Sportsman Cap & Bag, Kansas City, Mo., is now offering a high-quality, reusable mask solution from Helen Jon Swimwear.

“While sourcing face masks for our family, Helen Jon was recommended by a friend,” says Dan Saferstein, Sportsman Cap & Bag president. “I learned that like Sportsman, Helen Jon is located in the greater KC area. I reached out and was impressed with the team at Helen Jon and the quality of masks they are producing. We are excited to have them join the Sportsman Cap & Bag family as a new brand.”

Helen Jon created its mask based on templates and patterns suggested by doctors and nurses on the frontlines of the pandemic, according to the company. The two-ply mask is constructed from existing 82% nylon/18% spandex fabric (no latex) to create a mask with a tighter fit that is more comfortable than cotton. Each mask is pre-washed and ready for immediate wear. Masks are currently available in four fashion patterns and one solid. The stretch fabric will vary in patterns and colors based on supply.

The team at Helen Jon converted its manufacturing facilities to produce the non-medical grade masks and is selling below costs with additional masks being donated to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Sportsman Cap & Bag is sharing the masks through 16 distributor locations in North America.

“There is a lot of information about masks circulating, but a couple points standout—fit affects filtration efficiency and combining fabrics can be more effective in stopping a high percentage of droplets and particles from getting in or out,” Saferstein says. “We have a solution that is easy to wear, wash and reuse holding its shape with a unique combination of materials.” — D.S.
