Breakthrough in Fabric Softness

Archroma, a global leader in specialty chemicals for sustainable textiles, has launched SILIGEN D2W LIQ C, the industry’s first durable silicone softener for cotton and cotton-lycra blends.

The new softener solves a decades-old challenge: manufacturers previously had to choose between softness that washed out quickly or durability that compromised absorbency. SILIGEN D2W LIQ C delivers both silky feel and wash-resistance, extending the life of garments.

Designed for Apparel Performance

The softener is tailored for high-demand apparel categories where comfort and breathability matter most:

  • Undergarments & sleepwear
  • Baby and children’s clothing
  • Dresses and trousers
  • Activewear and T-shirts
  • Towels and home textiles

With its patent-pending “micro-x” cross-linking chemistry, SILIGEN D2W LIQ C forms a stable silicone network inside fibers, locking in softness while maintaining absorbency.

Sustainability Meets Innovation

By extending garment life, the new softener reduces replacement cycles, conserving resources and minimizing waste.

“Archroma is committed to innovation that furthers our planet-conscious vision,” said Dhirendra Gautam, VP Global Marketing and Strategy, Archroma. “SILIGEN® D2W LIQ C is a breakthrough that enhances both durability and hand feel, helping brands design for longevity and reduce environmental impact.”

Measuring Softness Durability

In another industry first, Archroma developed a way to quantify softness durability. Instead of relying on subjective “hand feel” tests, the company now measures the elastic recovery of fabrics after multiple washes, providing brands with objective data for quality claims.

“This enables mills and brands to more accurately quantify handfeel durability for the first time,” explained Michael Schuhmann, Global Marketing Manager Finishing, Archroma Textile Effects.
