Brother Intl. Corp., Bridgewater, N.J., recently introduced the ScanNCut, a home and hobby cutting machine with a built-in scanner.
With its 300 dpi built-in scanner, the ScanNCut machine can turn scanned images into unique cutting designs and projects without a computer, software or expensive cartridges, according to the company.
“We call the ScanNCut machine ‘the best thing to happen to cutting since the scissors’ because it is the answer to what so many scrapbookers and crafters have been asking for,” says Dean F. Shulman, senior vice president of Brother Intl. Corp. and head of the company’s home appliance and industrial products divisions. “Through years of research and listening, we learned crafters want a cutting machine that can keep up with their limitless creativity without being bound to built-in designs and expensive cartridges or software.”
Users can select from built-in designs or scan virtually anything — a handmade drawing, a magazine clipping, cherished photos and more — to create cut designs and then save to the machine’s memory, according to the company. Designs can be saved as a cut or draw file.
With the pen draw feature, the ScanNCut will create cut lines automatically, and then within minutes, hand-drawn elements will appear on the pages of the artwork as a cut element or a drawing. The machine features six drawing pens and two erasable pens, allowing users to change their cut file in the design and replicate it into a drawing in seconds.
With the direct cut feature, the ScanNCut machine scans a material, creates the outline cuts and allows users to select their designs straight from the surface to cut out, eliminating the hassle of hand-cutting designs from papers and fabrics, according to the company.
The machine also cuts fabrics. By pairing the erasable draw function with cutting, the machine can be used to draw a seam allowance, providing precise sewing guidelines, according to the company.
The ScanNCut machine is available in two models: the CM100DM and the CM550DX. A variety of accessories also are available.
The machine is available for purchase at authorized Brother Innov-ís dealers and exclusively at amazon.com.
